Engagement photos can feel nerve-wracking, especially if you are not used to being in front of the camera! What better way is there to prepare for your wedding day photos than your engagement photos? I am going to share with you my favorite tips to help you feel more comfortable and confident for your engagement session!

I had so much fun with this engagement session for Karina and Vivek! They are a great example of how to prepare for your engagement photos and have them turn out perfectly!

Decide on Outfits

You want your outfits to compliment each other rather than match, and you also want them to fit the location you have chosen! Stay away from any busy patterns like stripes or small polka dots, as these don’t always photograph well. We want the focus to be on you, not what you’re wearing. I’m always happy to help with outfit decisions! Send me photos of what you’re considering and I can let you know what I think would look best!

Clean Your Engagement Ring

Be sure to clean your engagement ring! You want your shiny new accessory to sparkle in your photos, right? During our session, I’ll be taking a lot of photos of your ring, so make sure it’s looking it’s best!

Everyday wear builds up oils, debris, and dirt on the surface of your ring. There are several different methods out there to clean your engagement ring at home! The Knot shares various ways to clean different types of engagement rings!

Get Your Nails Done

Like I said, I’ll be taking a lot of photos of your ring, which means a lot of photos of your hands! Many soon-to-be brides plan to have a manicure before their engagement photos to ensure their hands look gorgeous with their brand new ring. I have created a Pinterest board filled with stunning nail ideas for your engagement photos and your wedding day!

Make it a Date Day

Since we will most likely be shooting in the evening when the light is golden, my advice is to make your engagement session the end of a wonderful day together. Spend the day doing what you love to do together. That could be going for a hike, out to lunch, to a winery, or even a relaxing day at home. Make it all about YOU! This is a great way to connect and feel more relaxed with your partner during your engagement photos!
